The Magistrate Court has jurisdiction to oversee statement of claims that do not exceed $15,000. If the claim involves equity, injunctions, divorces, or anything respecting the title to land, the Superior Court has specific and exclusive jurisdiction.

Once a claim has been filed with the Magistrate Court, the defendant has 30 days to file an answer to the Court. If the defendant does not file an answer then the case will be in default. However, the defendant has an additional 15 days to pay the court cost and open the default. If an answer is filed, the case will be sent to mediation and/or a hearing schedule.

The paperwork must be filed correctly according to statute.
