Georgia Department of Public Health: New Data Supports Social Distancing Now More than Ever

The Georgia Department of Public Health issued a press release this afternoon reiterating the importance of social distancing and explaining recent findings from the Centers from Disease Control and Prevention.

Message from Chairman Billy Pittard

April 1, 2020

Shelter in Place (stay at home!)

Most everyone is aware by now that the Governor will issue a “Shelter in Place” order on Friday. Many are asking how the order will affect our community. Unfortunately, I won’t know exactly how we will be affected until we get a copy of the order. Depending on the level of details in the order, its possible that we may be limited to “interpretation” that may have to be defined locally. In the event that the order is vaguely written (I’m hoping it clear), we are communicating with other jurisdictions to hopefully come up with uniform guidelines. I will do my best to make relevant notices available through our county website (Oglethorpecountyga.gov) and, if necessary, Facebook. There may be other public notices available on our local EMA Facebook page and the Sheriff’s Facebook page.

We are in unprecedented times and I realize the uncertainty is taking its toll on everyone. But it is in times like this that we realize how blessed we are to live in a rural tight knit community. And I am confident that our community will ultimately rise from this stronger and more vibrant than ever. I appreciate everyone of you!

As of right now, all county departments are operating in such a manner as to minimize the interaction between employees and the public. Please call ahead and make use of web resources and emails as much as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
