Single-Stream Recycling

This is a small glimpse into the process of when Oglethorpe County recyclables are sent to the processing and sorting center in Athens-Clarke County.

Recycling Management includes hauling and removing recycle material from the recycling drop-off centers within in the county to the recycling sorting center located in Athens-Clarke County. 

Public Works Garden Project

The Oglethorpe County Public Works Department built a garden using material destined for the landfill or recycling center. These items included: trees, wire, metal poles, water sprinkler, tires. The compost was donated from Athens-Clarke Public Works Department from their compost facility. 

CHaRM Facility

The Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials is located in Athens-Clarke County. This is a one stop drop for items that can't be accepted by Oglethorpe County Public Works Department.

Recyclable material is processed and sorted into different commodities. The Athens-Clarkes Recycling Center is unique in that they send most of there items to domestic manufacturers. Some of this recyclable product is used to create new vehicles, asphalt, playground mulch, and much more. The manufacturing of these products helps ensure the continuation of employment for domestic and local jobs.

Teacher Reuse Store

The Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials receives significant amount 

of office and school supplies. These items are free to educators.
